Prof. Kora Kimpel has been a lecturer in “Design with Digital Media” on the “Visual Communication” course since 2004. In October 2012 she accepted office as Vice President of the Berlin University of the Arts. Prof. Kimpel teaches on various Master courses. Since 2008, she has been a member of the board for the German Society for Design Theory and Research (DGTF).
Prof. Kimpel’s main teaching and research interests explore the possibilities of digital media: From physi- cal computing to generative design modules, she uses, investigates and manipulates new technologies. Her work further focuses on basic research in digital design, the study of visual forms of expression that can be described using algorithms.
Prof. Kimpel studied Industrial Design, specialising in Interface Design, at the Braunschweig University of Art and the Universidad de Bellas Artes in Barcelona. She has been living in Berlin since 1994, where she has been working as a freelance interface and interaction designer. From 1999 to 2002, Prof. Kimpel was Design Director “Online Strategy” at MetaDesign in Berlin. She has been working with her own agency in a network of various designers in Berlin since 2003. Her work, for which she has received a number of awards, encompasses a wide spectrum, from exhibition design to interface studies. Since 2009, Prof. Kimpel has been collaborating with the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft (application-oriented re- search organisation) as a consultant on the “Discover Markets” project for the development of “thinking spaces” and reasoning tools for user-centred innovation.
